Foudy is a longtime radio talk show host with deep roots in the libertarian
movement.
With Michelle Lexalt, he hosted the daily Newsmaker show on
the United Broadcasting Network's 119 affiliates. He also hosted a business
show on the Talk America Radio Network, and the syndicated America
The Beautiful show on the ATB network.
However, Foudy may have had the most libertarian impact as a member
of several advocacy groups. For example, he is the executive director
of For Our Grandchildren (FOG), a Social Security reform group that
lobbies for privately owned retirement accounts.
On Social Security, Foudy wrote: "There is a better way. Many other
countries including Great Britain, Australia, Mexico, and Chile have
allowed their residents to opt out of bankrupt Social Security systems
just like ours and put their payroll taxes into personal accounts...
Nobody has lost their benefits. But, those with personal accounts have
done substantially better than they would have under the old system.
Why can't we have the option to make this choice?" (FOG Weblog,
December 12, 2003)
Foudy is a member of the board of directors of The Democracy Foundation,
which works to create a national initiative system. He also served on
the Foundation for American Liberty and The Initiative and Referendum
Institute.
In 1992, Foudy wrote Reinventing America: The Common Sense Domestic
Agenda for the 90's, which was published by the Institute for American
Democracy. In 1998, he was chairman of the Eris Society, a Colorado-based
"group of free thinkers" who discuss the arts, science, philosophy,
politics, and theology from a generally libertarian perspective.
In 1996, Foudy threw his support behind Libertarian Harry Browne's campaign
for president. Foudy was one of more than 100 radio talk show hosts
who called for Browne's inclusion in the presidential debates. He also
broadcast live from the Libertarian National Convention in Washington,
DC that year, and interviewed Browne and vice presidential candidate
Jo Jorgensen.
