Larry Elder - Libertarian


Larry ElderA self-described "fiscal conservative" and "social liberal," Larry Elder is a true libertarian. He supports the legalization of drugs and a woman's right to choose. He believes in eliminating public welfare and entitlement programs, race and gender-based affirmative action policies and minimum wage.

Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, Elder is known as the "Sage from South Central." Elder attended Brown University where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. He then attended University of Michigan, School of Law, graduating in 1977.

In 1980, Elder started his own company, Laurence A. Elder & Associates, Inc., an executive search firm for attorneys. In addition, he hosted Fabric, a monthly program on the Cleveland PBS station, and The Larry Elder Show, a weekly TV talk show.

In 1992, Larry was a guest on KABC Radio. KABC management heard Elder on the air and a star was born. In March of 1994, The Larry Elder Show premiered on TalkRadio 790 KABC from 8 to 11 PM. Before his first year ended, response to the show garnered Larry the coveted afternoon drive slot where he has been a ratings leader ever since.

Elder's publishing achievements have been as successful as his broadcast career. He has written numerous articles that have been published in The Miami Herald, Tampa Tribune, Chicago Tribune, Cleveland Plain Dealer and Investor's Business Daily. Additionally, his weekly syndicated column appears in print and Internet publications, and his newsletter The Elder Statement is published monthly. His New York Times bestseller, The Ten Things You Can't Say in America was followed by Showdown: Confronting Bias, Lies and the Special Interests that Divide America.

Elder regularly appears as a commentator on national news networks such as CNN, MSNBC and the FOX News Channel. He has been profiled on programs such as 60 Minutes, The Today Show, McNeil-Lehrer, Larry King Live, 20/20, The Chris Rock Show, Dennis Miller Live and recently played himself in an episode of ABC's Spin City.

Elder's talk-show topics dealt with a wide range of current issues, from the federal deficit to the decline in civility in sports to incompetence on the Los Angeles City Council and school board. Elder described himself as a "libertarian with a small `l'" and opposed gun control and the minimum wage, while supporting school vouchers, reproductive choice, gay rights, and the legalization of marijuana and cocaine.
