Epic Liberty!

We’ve just launched a huge new program aimed at creating a new “army” of campus libertarian activists - by radically increasing the number of students who encounter OPH and its uniquely compelling approach to introducing people to libertarianism.

It’s called Epic Liberty - and it's one of our most ambitious projects ever. Over the next 12 months we will coordinate with campus libertarian organizations across America to discover huge numbers of libertarians and libertarian-friendly students - and turn thousands of them into libertarian activists.

Campus Outreach to the Next Generation of Libertarian Activists

Today, there is more interest in libertarian ideas among college young people than ever before.

College and university campuses are, without a doubt, the hottest spots for finding and creating new libertarians. The return on our investment - in time, effort and money - exceeds any other venue we can think of.

Campus outreach has long been a major priority for the Advocates and this year we are focusing on college campuses even more.

Epic Liberty will motivate large numbers of campus activists to use OPH on their campus, again and again - discovering new libertarians every time!

Epic Liberty will harness youthful energy and willingness to think outside the box for spreading the liberty message - in a way that has never been attempted before.

Epic Liberty will call on college students' competitive spirit, as they challenge one another to greater achievements in libertarian recruitment.

There are now more than 500 libertarian student groups on America's college campuses. Many of these groups are small, but their potential impact is enormous.

They are in place to reach the voters, activists, leaders, candidates of tomorrow - right now!

Epic Liberty will help them do it - and reward them for doing it!

We know that an Operation Politically Homeless kit is the best tool a student group can use to grow the pool of like-minded individuals on campus and to grow membership. That's why, last year, we began distributing OPH kits to libertarian student groups - at no charge to them.

Students are thrilled with this offer. As of September 12, we've sent 376 OPH kits to campus libertarian groups in 46 states and DC. (We’ve even sent one to New Zealand and one to Canada.) Across the country students are putting those kits to work - discovering new libertarians, obtaining new members, and building their presence on campus.

We're off to a great start to advancing the cause of liberty on college campuses. But more needs to be done.

That's what Epic Liberty is all about, making campus outreach more efficient, more fun, and more exciting than ever before!

The Epic Liberty program uses social media to add an exciting new element to the student activist experience.

We will continue providing free OPH kits to libertarian student groups, and now with Epic Liberty we will reward students for their hard work of spreading the ideas of liberty. And we will document their successes, and learn from their experiences.

Participating students will earn points for completing libertarian challenges such as hosting an OPH, getting libertarian letters-to-the-editor published, and sharing their groups’ successes with other libertarians.

For individual students, we will offer books, T-shirts, other Advocates products, magazine subscriptions, and more. And the students and their groups can accumulate points for larger prizes - prizes that will help their campus organization increase their effectiveness even further.

These top-level prizes will inspire campus libertarian activism all over the country, leading to identifying and creating thousands of new libertarians on campus.

Do the Math: Thousands
of New Student Libertarians!

Hundreds of OPH kits in action on campuses across America means amazing things for the future of the liberty movement.

From more than two decades of experience with OPH, we know what OPH can do. We can make a reasonable and reliable estimate of what to expect from a typical OPH booth.

And the potential is incredible. Just do the math. Remember, we’ve distributed over 375 kits so far, and we’ll be distributing many more in the months ahead.

Now consider:

• If just 250 kits are used the minimum three times, we'll see 750 OPH events in the coming 12 months. (Many student groups will, of course, do many more than three.)
• If each of these 750 OPH events identifies an average of 20 students who score in the libertarian quadrant of the Quiz (a conservative estimate based on past experience), that's 15,000 libertarian-leaning students identified!
• And if these student libertarian groups can enroll just half of these liberty-loving students in libertarian organizations and activities, that's 7,500 new liberty activists - identified and signed up - in just one year!

It's easy to see how Epic Liberty will grow the community of libertarian student activists by making it easy and enticing for them to join, participate, and share their experiences!

Let me repeat. We have observed OPH in action for nearly 25 years. From experience, we know these numbers are reliable and predicable estimates. OPH works.

To paraphrase a famous movie line: “Do OPH... and they will come.” Do 750 OPHs... and those OPHs will discover thousands of libertarians and libertarian-leaning folks: great prospects for joining the liberty movement!

What would be the effect of 15,000 or more new libertarian supporters on campus? Of 7,500 or more new student libertarians engaged in political activism in 2012?

• Publishing the Liberator Online, our acclaimed free email newsletter that brings the very best ways to communicate the ideas of liberty to nearly 40,000 subscribers.
• Sharing expert libertarian communication know-how at our Facebook site (we have over 12,000 Facebook fans), at our Communicating Liberty blog, and at our workshops and other public appearances.
• Distributing unique books, DVDs, and CDs that have taught thousands of libertarians to become successful communicators of the ideas of liberty.
• And so much more!
